Family Video, the last video rental chain in the country, has begun their liquidation sale at the Wabash location, which will be closing its doors Saturday, Oct. 24.

Inside the Family Video at 53 E. Market St., on Monday, everything was marked on sale and was further reduced. Movies, games and TV shows previously for rent were now on clearance. In the back, the adult section was closed, but up front a sign informed shoppers they could buy the floor mats by the door for $10 a piece.

The evidence was everywhere that the unhappy trend of brick and mortar video stores closing up shop had claimed another victim.

“Unfortunately the Wabash location is closing,” said Suzanne Peterson, district manager for Highland Ventures, which owns the store.

On Monday, Peterson said Family Video, the last video rental chain in the country, had begun their liquidation sale at the Wabash location, which would be closing its doors Saturday, Oct. 24.

“COVID-19 has hit many businesses hard and it is unfortunate that this location just did not bounce back,” said Peterson.

Peterson said this Family Video location had been open for the past 21 years.

“We are very thankful to have been able to provide entertainment for many family movie nights, and want to thank the people of Wabash and our incredible staff for the many years of support and service,” said Keith Hoogland, CEO of Highland Ventures.
