North Manchester Climate Strike set for Friday

Staff Report

The public is invited to join students, staff, and faculty from Manchester University who will rally from 11 a.m. To noon Friday at the steps of the Funderburg Library “to demand their right to a sustainable future,” according to a Tuesday press release.

A series of speakers including students and community members will speak during the Climate Strike on a plethora of climate change-related issues such as the Green New Deal and Fossil Fuel Divestment. Organizers will send the message that our planet is warming and we must take action now.

Students are invited to walk out of their classes at 11 a.m. and to gather at the Funderburg Library steps. There will be a series of speakers with the keynote from the Manchester University Sunrise Movement Chapter Organizers.

“The world we are going up in is the warmest on record. Climate change is contributing to sea-level rise, stronger hurricanes heavier downpours and more extreme heats that will continue to devastate our communities and farmland. Together, we can prepare and protect our communities from climate impact, and this Climate Strike is the first step of many for a new generation to take on the fight against injustice,” stated the release.
