Brewer, Davis lead Squires to victory

In a showdown with conference foe Tippecanoe Valley on Thursday, the Manchester boys’ and girls’ track teams each earned wins over the Vikings. In the girls’ meet, the Squires won 88-40 while the boys’ team earned a 68-55 victory.

Gabby Brewer earned victories in the long jump and high jump and helped the 400-meter relay team to a victory to highlight the girls’ team on the evening. In the boys’ meet, Isiah Davis helped the 3,200- and 400-meter relay teams to wins while earning victories in the high jump and long jump individually. 

Apache track teams split against Mississinewa

At home against Mississinewa on Thursday, the Wabash boys’ track team picked a victory over the Indians 78-47 while the girls’ track team fell 66-61.

In the boys’ meet, Charly Smith won the 110- and 300-meter hurdle events while helping the 1,600-meter relay team to a win while Dereck Vogel also took part in the relay and captured a win in the high jump.

The girls’ team was paced by victories in the field events from Jordan Stumbo in the high jump, Mariah Wyatt in the shot put, Trinidy Wyatt in the discus and Leigha Boggs in the pole vault. 

Norse bats go cold against Indians

At home against Mississinewa on Thursday, the Northfield softball team struggled at the plate, mounting just one hit in a 9-1 loss to the Indians.

That lone hit came from Elise Gottschalk in the second inning. The run came in the seventh inning after a leadoff walk to Addi Baker. An error would move Baker to third before a sacrifice fly from Kenzie Baer brought her home.

Abby Hunter took the loss on the mound, allowing seven hits and five runs in five innings with six walks and three strikeouts. Ally Keaffaber pitched the final two innings, allowing five hits and four runs, none earned, with a strikeout. 

Knight golf falls at home

In its home opener at Etna Acres Golf Club, the Southwood boys’ golf team fell to Whitko 182-197. The Knights were led by medalist Carson Heath’s round of 47. Logan Arnold followed with a 48, Jayden Timmons shot a 50, Ket Baldwin a 52 and Baron Hedrick a 57. 

Knights run away with win on road

Behind an offensive explosion featuring 17 hits, the Southwood softball team earned a 14-6 win over Southern Wells on the road Thursday.

MaKenna Pace, Tabitha Thomas and Kayla Mays all had three hits apiece in the victory with Mays knocking in four runs and Thomas three. Pace scored four times on the day.

A trio of Knights combined on the mound to secure the win. Makenlie Lambert started the game, going two innings and allowing two hits and a run. Ashley Smith pitched a pair of innings, allowing three earned runs on two hits and four walks. Pace closed the game by going the final three innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits with three strikeouts. 

Norse tennis earns second win

The Northfield girls’ tennis team moved to 2-0 on the season with a win at Whitko on Thursday, 3-2.

Kelcie Thomson earned a victory at No. 2 singles while the doubles teams of Erin Whetstone and Lyndsey Carter at No. 1 doubles and Tori Bogert and Allysa Haupert at No. 2 doubles picked up wins on the night.
