Manchester Community Schools is grieving after the loss of one of their students who passed away Thursday morning.

Katie Cattron, 20, died around 8 a.m. Thursday. According to Wabash County Sheriff Ryan Baker, Cattron had pre-existing medical complications that most likely contributed to her passing.

She was a student in Manchester Jr./Sr. High School’s RISE program. The school made their public announcement on its Facebook page, where hundreds of North Manchester residents and former teachers to Cattron sent their condolences to her family.

“Katie was a good person who touched many students and staff at MJSHS with her presence and wonderful smile,” the post reads. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family, friends, and teachers as they cope with her loss. She will be missed.”

Cattron’s teacher, Erica Vogel, said her student loved to dance, read and play games with her classmates. She also said Cattron often participated in the school’s Cup O’ Squire and Squire Boutique businesses, and worked at Nordmann’s Nook with the RISE classroom.

“Katie was a joyful young lady who brought many talents to our classroom ... Her smile, laughter, and love will be truly missed,” she said.

Assistant Principal James Bishir said the school immediately provided extra consoling to the students and staff who knew Cattron, and additional counseling services were made available throughout the day Thursday and Friday.

Services for Cattron will be held Sunday and Monday in North Manchester.
