Wabash knocks off Braves in TRC showdown

The Wabash girls’ basketball team picked up a Three Rivers Conference win, its third of the season, at home on Saturday, knocking off Maconaquah 61-48.

Hope Unger had a career night in the win, pouring in 25 points while connecting on five three-pointers. Alivia Short and Mariah Wyatt finished with 11 and nine points, respectively, while grabbing a combined 20 rebounds.

The Apaches led 17-9 after one quarter before seeing the lead trimmed down to 26-25 by halftime. After building up the advantage to 39-37 after three quarters, Wabash outscored the visitors 22-11 in the final frame.

Wabash (7-9) will host Eastbrook on Tuesday with tip-off set for 7:45 p.m.

Norse start fast in win over Bluffton

The Northfield girls’ basketball team built a 20-5 lead in the first quarter and never looked bad at Bluffton on Saturday, winning 62-37.

The Norse extended their winning streak to nine games by winning each of the first three quarters to build up a 55-29 lead heading into the fourth.

Ariel Dale poured in a game-high 23 points while connecting on a pair of threes. Kelcie Thomson finished with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals in the win. Abbey Ross and Kyra Kennedy both had six rebounds while Addi Baker chipped in eight points.

Northfield (14-2) hosts Eastern on Tuesday with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.

Offensive struggles doom Northfield against Argylls

The Northfield boys’ basketball team shot just 32 percent from the field and 24 percent from range as offensive struggles led to a 78-57 loss at home to Madison-Grant on Saturday.

Madison-Grant led 20-14 after one period and 38-21 at the halftime break. The Norse played nearly level in the second-half, being only outscored 30-26. However, the margin was too big for the Norse to overcome.

Jared Peas tied for game-high honors in scoring with 18 points. Logan Peas finished with 13 points and Clayton Tomlinson 12. Graydon Holmes and Braden Ripplinger each had four points and Cole Rosen and Nate Drancik each had three.

Northfield (1-9) travels to North Miami on Friday with tip-off set for 8:00 p.m.

Apaches compete at IHSWCA Team Duals

Wabash’s wrestling team took place in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association State Team Duals at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.

Wabash fell to Eastside 39-37 and Adams Central 60-21 to open the day before downing Frankton 52-24 to close out the competition. The Apaches placed 10th as a team with Adams Central taking first and Prairie Heights second.

Braden Brooks (126 lbs.) finished a perfect 3-0 on the day for the Apaches as did Jared Brooks (106 lbs.), Ethan Higgins (120 lbs.) and Braden Brooks (126 lbs.).

Northfield wrestling takes part in Bill Kerbel Invite

Five Northfield wrestlers took part in the Bill Kerbel Wrestling Invitational at New Haven. Seth Forsyth took fourth at 145 pounds with a 2-2 record while Jasper Donaldson placed fifth at 195 pounds with a 3-1 mark.

Logan Cox (182 lbs.), Ross Watson (220 lbs.) and Dakota France (152 lbs.) also competed on the day for Northfield.

Squires place second at East Noble Invite

Finishing just 1.5 points behind Huntington North, the Manchester wrestling team placed second at the East Noble Invitational on Saturday. Elkhart Central finished third on the day and East Noble fourth.

Delton Moore (170 lbs.), Trescott Duffy (182 lbs.) and Bryce Kamphues (285 lbs.) all earned individual titles on the day for Manchester.

Manchester sits at 17-3 on the year and will travel to Triton for a dual meet on Wednesday.
