Dale reaches 1,000 points in Norse victory

With her first basket on the road against Taylor High School on Tuesday, Northfield Jr./Sr. High School’s Ariel Dale became the latest member of the 1,000-point club for the Norse program.

Dale finished with 10 points on the night to help the Norse earn a 56-49 win over the Titans.

Northfield led 16-12 after one before blowing open the lead to 35-24 by halftime. In a slow third quarter, Taylor cut the gap to 42-37 heading into the final period, but Northfield closed out the final frame to earn the win.

Emma Hoover finished with a team-high of 14 points for Northfield. Kelcie Thomson added 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals and Addi Baker added six points and seven rebounds.

Northfield (6-2) will host Southwood High School in a doubleheader on Friday with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.

 

Manchester earns historic win over Huntington North

For the first time in over 30 years, the Manchester Jr./Sr. High School Girls’ Basketball team knocked off Huntington North High School on Tuesday at home, 41-37. The victory is the first by the Squires over the Vikings since 1984.

“I am so proud of the accomplishment that the girls achieved tonight,” Manchester Head Coach Jacob Everett said in an e-mail to the Plain Dealer. “I think our drive and focus is where it needs to be to play at a high level. I’m ready to get back at it tomorrow and see what else this team can accomplish.”

After trailing 12-7 in the first quarter, Manchester exploded for 20 points in the second period to lead 27-20. The hosts extended the margin to nine points after three quarters before hanging on for the win in the fourth.

Kennedy FIerstos finished with a game-high 19 points to lead Manchester, including knocking down five three-pointers. Kiera Hatfield hit a trio of three-pointers for nine points on the night.

Manchester (5-4) will return to Three Rivers Conference (TRC) play on Friday at home against Whitko High School. Tip-off is slated for 7:45 p.m.
