Lane restrictions on U.S. 24 expected Friday

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will begin construction of a left turn lane at the intersection of U.S. 24 and West Wabash County Road 100S, also known as Falls Avenue, in Wabash on Friday.

Crews will be removing a portion of the intersection’s median to install the new turn larn on eastbound U.S. 24, which is being added to ease traffic in the area after engineers reported congestion at the intersection during peak hours.

“We’re seeing a large number of vehicles turning left across traffic there to take the county road north, so that will help alleviate congestion at that intersection,” said Nicole Hacha-Thomas, media relations director for INDOT’s Northeast Indiana office. “There’s already a left turn lane (on U.S. 24) westbound towards Falls Avenue.”

Lane restrictions are expected through early October, weather permitting.

The project was bid to Milford-area contractor Phend and Brown for $171,000.
