Jazz on the Lawn pays tribute to Big Band era

by the WPD STAFF

The Honeywell House is bringing back its popular Jazz on the Lawn concert in August, featuring the Big Swing Band from Lafayette.

The band will perform jazz favorites from the 1940s, the peak of the Big Band era.

This is the eighth year the Honeywell House has offered the outdoor concert.

Each year, Jazz on the Lawn takes guests back to the days when jazz was fresh on the American music scene. Held on the Honeywell House lawn, each concert is typically held outdoors except in the event of inclement weather, when guests are moved to the Honeywell Center’s Legacy Hall.

Guests can dance to the music or enjoy dinner, appetizers and drinks. Patrons can even bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, food and non-alcoholic beverages, the Honeywell Foundation said in an announcement for the concert.

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2. The lawn will open at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 day of show for adults, $5 for youth through high school and free for children 2 and under, available through the Honeywell Center’s box office or online at www.honeywellhouse.org.
