A fire at SRT Aluminum caused $10,000 worth of damage after it took the Wabash Fire Department (WFD) less than 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze Sunday, WFD said in a statement this week.

The department says firefighters from all three shifts responded to the fire at 50 Dimension Ave., around 7:30 p.m. that evening after a conveyor reportedly caught fire.

Wabash County Central Dispatch says a citizen driving past SRT Aluminum reported the fire, which was visible from the roadway.

WFD Chief Barry Stroup told the Plain Dealer on Tuesday that workers were inside the plant when the fire began, but no one was injured. Stroup says the fire was contained to a single building, but he could not identify the building.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Wabash City Police and Wabash County Emergency Management Agency also assisted.
