Relay for Life to 'Plow Under Cancer'

NORTH MANCHESTER — Area cancer survivors and their supporters will be raising money for the American Cancer Society during the annual Relay for Life Wabash County in North Manchester next Saturday.

The relay combines teams from the Wabash and North Manchester areas in search of a cure for cancer. All festivities will take place at the Manchester Community Schools Administration Office, located next to Manchester High School.

Teams will arrive starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, with opening ceremonies taking place at noon in the auditorium. Ceremonies will begin with a special survivor lap, followed by a survivor luncheon.

All activities will take place indoors, the Relay for Life North Manchester committee said in an announcement.

Participants can walk laps around the indoor track or bid on items for sale in the relay’s silent auction to be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. that afternoon, the announcement said. Other entertainment includes food booths, indoor games and performances by Madisyn Schmidt, Marshall Love, Dakota Parker and JP Freeman as the “Eel River Rambler.”

A mobile mammography coach will also be on hand throughout the day, the committee said.

The evening will conclude with a luminaria ceremony at 6:30 p.m., followed by closing ceremonies at 7:45 p.m., the announcement said.

Teams may register at www.relayforlife.org.
