Blair named to North All-Star roster

RUN: Southwood’s Carson Blair breaks a tackle of an Adams Central defender during the Knights’ sectional title game last fall.

Staff reports

Southwood senior Carson Blair will become just 12th Knight in school history to compete in the North-South All-Star football game this July.

Blair was recently named to the North roster as a quarterback and will be the first Knight since 2008 to play in the annual game. This year’s game, the 52nd year of the contest, will take place on Friday, July 13 at North Central High School at 7:30 p.m. The game is put on by the Indiana Football Coaches Association (IFCA).

Last fall for the Knights, Blair finished with 3,926 yards in 13 games, completing 62.9 percent of his passes. His 57 touchdowns set a school record while he threw just three interceptions all season.

Blair also added 565 yards on the ground with six more touchdowns for a total of 63 touchdowns scored on the year.

Defensively, Blair added eight interceptions, a team-high, while recovering one fumble and racking up 41 tackles.

The senior rewrote the record books, helping the offense to the most yards and touchdowns in a single season in program history while shattering the mark for yards per game in a season.

Individually, Blair set career marks in passes completed, career passing completion percentage, passing yardage and passing touchdowns.

Blair’s 9,843 passing yards for his career are sixth-most in state history while his season total of nearly 4,000 yards ranked ninth-most in state history.

The senior also set school records for single-game passing yardage, touchdown passes and helped the Knights set a record for points and touchdowns in a single game as a team.

Behind Blair, Southwood finished 11-2 and earned the program’s first Three Rivers Conference title since 2002. The Knights also captured the first back-to-back sectional titles since 1991.

The last North-South All-Star game participant for the Knights was Nick Driskill in 2008. Southwood has had just four participants in the game since 1996.
