The Metro School bragging rights belong to Southwood for now.

Thanks to an offensive outburst from junior Adam Dubuque, the host Knights were able to turn a close game into a rout of Northfield Friday night in the opening round of the Wabash County Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Southwood held a 13-11 advantage at the end of one, but Dubuque poured in 13 of his game-high 25 points in the second stanza, helping the Knights turn in a 10-point lead at the half, 32-22.

Northfield (2-2) was able to cut the lead to eight on three occasions in the fourth quarter, Nathan VanDuyne fouled out on the same play that Kody Case was whistled for a technical foul with 2:51 left in the game, taking the wind out of the sails for the Norse.

Parker Stouffer paced the Knights with six first-period points, including a dropstep dunk that put his team up 9-4 with 4:10 to go in the period.

Dubuque canned a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter, and Stouffer added six more points.

Nathan VanDuyne led Northfield with 10 first-half points, while Case and Corbin Dawes both added five.

Southwood maintained a double-digit lead until the 1:15 mark of the third period, when a Dawes rebound putback cut the deficit to eight at 42-34.

Dubuque responded with a trey from the right wing, and Spencer Krhin added a dunk to help the Knights enter the fourth period up 11 at 47-36.

Southwood was able to respond with points every time Northfield cut the lead to under ten in the final stanza.

Dawes collected a loose ball and canned a 15-foot jumper from the baseline with 6:10 to go to make it 49-41, but Krhin responded with a post bucket off of a feed from Dillon McCoy.

VanDuyne got into the act with a jumper from the top of the key with 5:10 to go in the contest, but once again the Knights had an answer, this time in the form of a 12-foot jumper from Dubuque.

After VanDuyne fouled out and Case was hit with the technical, Southwood hit 2-of-4 free throws to extend its lead to 10 again at 55-45.

Northfield did not get within 10 again.

Stouffer ended the night with a superb statline that included 17 points, seven rebounds and six blocked shots.

Krhin added 11 points, all of which came in the second half, and seven boards.

VanDuyne paced the Norse with 20 points, and he added eight boards.

Dawes was the other Norseman in double figures with 13 points and seven rebounds, and Case chipped in seven points and 12 rebounds.

Southwood advances to the championship round of the Wabash County Tournament tonight at 8 p.m., where they will take on Manchester (1-6), who defeated Wabash 61-49 Friday night in the other first-round contest.

Northfield will take on the Apaches (0-6) in the consolation contest at 4 p.m.
