Northfield will be hard pressed to find a flaw in their performance Friday night.

The Lady Norse turned in a stellar effort on both ends of the floor, shooting 50-percent from the field while grabbing 24 steals in a 74-21 whitewashing of Maconaquah.

Northfield improved to 3-1 on the year with victory, and matched its win total from last season.

After a Jennifer Kuepper 3-pointer from the right wing gave the Lady Braves (0-3) a 3-0 lead with 6:40 to go in the first quarter, Northfield closed the period on an 18-0 run.

Melissa Eltzroth led the way for the Lady Norse with 10 first-period points, including a pair of threes.

A Karyn Wilcox layup off of a drive to the bucket put Northfield up 22-5 with six minutes left in the first half.

Northfield's relentless pressure gave Maconaquah fits all night, limiting the Lady Braves to five field goals in the first half.

Maconaquah, meanwhile, went into the locker room down 35-13 after committing 17 turnovers.

Eltzroth paced Northfield with 16 first-half points, and she also added four steals and three boards.

Wilcox also put in a superb performance in the first two quarters, finishing with nine points, three rebounds and two steals.

Stephanie Long led Maconaquah with four first-half points.

The offensive struggles continued for the Lady Braves in the second half. They shot 2-for-6 in from the field in the third quarter, and were outscored 17-7.

Jennifer Wittenberg dropped in a pair of treys for Maconaquah in the third period, but the Lady Norse continued their attack.

Eltzroth scored on a pair of layins, one from a Wilcox feed and another on a steal and breakaway.

Katie Bitzel nailed a jumper from the top of the key to put Northfield up 30 at 47-17.

The Lady Norse held Maconaquah to one point in the fourth quarter, while they cleared their bench.

Eltzroth finished the night with 31 points, seven steals, six assists and five rebounds to lead Northfield.

Wilcox added 17 points, five boards and three steals, and Carly Mast turned in a night that included eight points and five rebounds.

Bitzel, Alexa Trump, and Emmy Branham each added four points in the victory.
