Strawberry Fest entertainment lineup set

By the WPD staff
Monday, May 19, 2008 9:10 PM EDT

Entertainment during the Very Berry Strawberry Fest June 14 will include performances at the Wabash Marketplace Inc. Food Tent and a new event “Boogie Heads.”

Entertainment at the tent will include: 4 For Him, 10 a.m.; Summer Youth Theater of Wabash County, 11 a.m.; Market Street Beat, noon; Playhouse Studio of Dance, 1 p.m.; and The Pefley's, 2 p.m.

The newest sensation appearing at events, “Boogie Heads,” will be at the corner of Wabash and Market streets during the festival. A video disc jockey will entertain people by showing only their heads in a live music video on top of professional dancer's bodies. Participants don't have to sing or mouth the song - just bounce their head. Meanwhile, others watch on a big screen monitor as it happens.

The third annual Very Berry Strawberry Fest parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. The parade will follow the same route as last year, with staging on South Huntington Street, then heading north to East Canal, going west on East Canal, to the west side of the Honeywell Center, north on Carroll, then traveling east on Market Street, and disbanding at the entrance of Paradise Spring Historical Park.

The Community Action Committee is looking for entries for the parade. Categories are: commercial floats, equestrian, walking, band, organizational float, tractor, antique vehicle, and novelty/miscellaneous. Cash prizes and a trophy will be given to first-place winners. Second-place winners will receive a cash prize and a ribbon. Third-place winners will receive a ribbon.

The theme of the parade is “Raise the Flag for Freedom,” in honor of Flag Day.

Vieste, LLC is the parade sponsor.

For information or entry form, contact Marcie Shepherd, 563-2419, or e-mail her at marcie_shepherd@yahoo.com.

The deadline for registrations is May 30.
